HERITAGE CLASSIC
Do you ever have regrets? I don't think I have any, just moments were I wonder what would I be doing now if I had followed another path, or made a different choice.
I saw a coach bus the other day and I was suddenly overcome by memories. I was reminded of all the years I played hockey and took coach buses to tournaments. There was the constant drinking of juice boxes, discussions of power plays and penalty kills, and watching movies.
One of my favorite memories was when one bus had a mike and my dad got on the loud speaker. In less then 5 minutes he had all the players and there parents dieing of laughter. I have sooo many stories, I could go on forever. There is something special to me in getting on a bus bound for Saskatchewan at 6am and its snowing and freezing cold out.
Where would I be if I had not quit, how far would I have gone? Do I still have the skills to try-out again?
When playing on the Red Deer Chiefs during provincials my dad made the team a bet. If we made it to the gold medal game, we could all shave his head. This was nearly impossible because Edmonton was in our pool and they had not lost in the provincials in the last 6 years.
WE WON, so we shaved my dads head and then we all got to write our numbers on his bald head on game day. All the parents wore out home jerseys too as they cheered in the stands during the Gold Medal Game!
